The we4DRR Webinar Series 2025/26 features a diverse programme that showcases the contributions of women to disaster risk reduction, supports capacity building, and provides a platform for exchange among we4DRR members.

 

The lunchtime webinars will be held on the third Monday of each month from 12:00 to 13:00 CET.
Participation is limited to we4DRR members. Please send an email to contact@we4DRR.net to join.

20 October 2025: The we4DRR Steering Committee in Dialogue

This webinar, moderated by Barbara Hinterstoisser (BOKU, former we4DRR Steering Committee member) will introduce the role of the we4DRR Steering Committee and its members. The committee members will then discuss women’s contributions to DRR.
 

17 November 2025: we4DRR members in focus with Heidi Hefre (Norwegian Geotechnical Institute, NGI)

Heidi will give a talk entitled “Mountain Hazard Management: A journey from technical work to leading people”. Roxana Ciurean (British Geological Survey, BGS) will moderate the Q&A session.
 

15 December 2025: Capacity building webinar on gender bias in DRR workplaces

Representatives from the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Group at the British Geological Survey (BGS) will discuss the barriers that women face across different contexts, as well as the approaches that can help overcome them. Laura Saxer (Austrian Research Centre for Forests, BFW) will moderate the Q&A.
 

12 January 2026: Collaboration with the Austrian Association for Snow and Avalanches, with Andrea Mannberg (University of Tromsø)

In her talk, “Is this a man’s world? Gendered experiences among professionals in the avalanche safety industry”, Andrea will address two questions:
1. Why are women underrepresented in the avalanche safety industry?
2. Is increasing gender diversity in the industry desirable?
The webinar will be moderated by Michaela Teich (Austrian Research Centre for Forests, BFW)
 

16 February 2026: we4DRR members in focus with Tanja Schriebl (Water Management Planning, County of Styria, Austria)

Tanja will present her work at the Water Management Planning Unit of the County of Styria, Austria. She will also talk about career path and how she overcame the challenges she faced along the way.
 

16 March 2026: Dialogue across the networks Disaster Competence Centre Austria (DCNA) and German Committee for Disaster Reduction (DKKV)

Network representatives and we4DRR members Susanna Wernhart (DCNA) and Ronja Winkhardt (DKKV) will discuss the work of their networks and explain how we4DRR members can get involved.
