Giulia Bossi
Senior Researcher at the Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection at the Italian Research Council
Giulia Bossi is a geotechnical engineer and senior researcher at the Research Institute for Geo-Hydrological Protection at the Italian Research Council (CNR-IRPI), where she has been working since 2010. She coordinates three EU-funded MSCA projects (UPGRADE, RESOLVE, and BETTER) and leads several national and local initiatives. Her research combines field investigations, monitoring, and forensic reconstruction of past events - all aimed at enhancing the resilience of the built environment to climate change and aging, with a focus on the Life Cycle Assessment of infrastructure. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed publications, and she serves as an editor for Landslides and the Journal of Mountain Science.
Her main research topic has always been landslides. Giulia often says she enjoys studying large landslides because “every landslide is different—it’s a bit like finding the right treatment for a clinical patient.”
Giulia actively mentors PhD and MSc students at the Universities of Bologna and Padova and contributes as a reviewer for research projects and doctoral committees. She is also passionate about science communication, participating in outreach events like the European Research Night and Skype-a-Scientist, and contributing to initiatives such as School4SID, which connects science with diplomacy and policy.
In this context, in 2016, she joined the we4DRR network with enthusiasm, believing in the power of stories and the value of sharing experiences, mentoring by example, and being part of a support network that resonates across different levels.
